First, something I hafta get outta my system --

Ia! Eldritch flooring!

Second, something else I hafta get outta my system --

Boo-Ia! I sold enough information today that I'll get $367 in commission. You can keep your damn "information wants to be free" crap to yourself, hippie!

Okay, that's done. So, once again at last minute (but not great expense) Rebecca and I have come up with vacation plans. At the beginning of September, we'll fly up to Seattle and visit with her sister and mother who live up there. We'll spend a few days there and then... road trip!

We're gonna rent a car for a week and drive back, via Yellowstone, Mesa Verde and goddamit Meteor Crater, since Dad would never detour off the highway to go see it. With any luck, we'll also see a few "World's Largest Balls of Twine" (since there's more than one) and other educational sights.
Right now I'm reflecting on how great it is to NOT live in a place where its greatest claim to fame is a big ball of twine.

Will that road trip take you home along I-40 (through Kingman, Needles, and Barstow) or along I-10 (through Phoenix)? And, don't forget that leaving Seattle to the east will take you through "Twin Peaks" country.

Pretty sure I'll be putting the pedal to the metal on I40 on the way back to Los Angeles.

Well, if you're going to be passing through Flagstaff on a weekend, Pam and I would be more than happy to make a day trip up there and at least meet up with you and Rebecca for lunch. Flagstaff's a pleasant little town and worth a trip to escape the heat in Phoenix. There are a few good used bookstores in Flagstaff, the best of which is Bookman's and the second-best of which is Dragon's Plunder. You also might find the Lowell Observatory (where Yuggoth was discovered) interesting and Sunset Crater is just 20 miles north-northeast of town.

If you're coming from Mesa Verde and plan to stop at Meteor Crater (which I've read is $12 per person for admission), there's plenty of cheesy stuff along I-40. Holbrook has a number of dinosaur-related points of interest, although I've never visited any of them and can't vouch for their merit. Unfortunately, you'll miss the fun of being in four states simultaneously at Four Corners. But, there's the plus of driving along Route 666 from the Arizona/Colorado border down to Gallup. Don't forget to check RoadsideAmerica.com before you go anywhere.
