According to your neighbor Amy, you're supposed to keep the top part of the cake (or some part of the wedding cake) in the freezer and thaw it out and eat it for your one-year anniversary.
The thought of year-old cake is a little revolting, but the thought of keeping what looks like a severed head in your freezer is frankly cheerful.
We made the mistake of ordering a lovely banana-flavored top to our cake, meaning that we saved it a year, but Shawn refused to eat anything but some symbolic frosting.
Then again, I got to eat the whole thing, and it was incredibly tasty. Maybe not a mistake.
