So says the Pentagon, in face of charges that Rumsfeld ordered a prisoner hidden from the Red Cross. Not so ambivalent is General Taguba, who "said efforts to hide prisoners from the Red Cross were “deceptive” and a “violation of international law.”"

Of course, Ashcroft's Department of Justice has been working on a legal justification of torture, though he refuses to release the memos to Congress, which ought to earn him contempt of Congress since we the people, in the form of our representatives, deserve to know what's going on. A similar memo from the Defense Department has already been leaked.

I'm trying to remember... we're the good guys, right?

I don't think he can actually get Contempt of Congress until the documents are officially subpoenaed, but I am not sure.

Watching him give questioners the run-around on C-SPAN last week was...disturbing.

"Is anything in those documents classified?"

Ashcroft-- "Well, I'm told that some could be."

"Are they or not!?!"

A-- "They COULD be!"

(Not exact, but basically the gist of it...)
