I smell urban legend, or at least some wonky facts. As I understand it, past a foot or two of water, human lungs can't draw a 1 atmosphere breath, thanks to the water pressure - that's why the breathing tubes used by guys in old diving suits are hooked up to compressors. In theory, this guy shouldn't have been able to breath through a garden hose, underwater, in a lake.
