Grandma's celebration of life was last weekend. With all of the craziness of the house selling and buying, I couldn't make it there, but at least I could play another small part in the overall process. Although her urn was interred alongside Grandpa at the veterans' cemetery, a bit of her had a different fate. She had asked to have ashes spread at Laguna Beach.

Now, knowing the risks of the release of ashes on the Pacific Coast, we added our own wrinkle to the plans.

A little water, some freezing, a pile of ashes, some blossoms...

Blossoms & Ashes

...some more water and some more freezing. The Fire & Ice special.

Laguna Beach is a victim of its own popularity, so I angled for a quieter spot than the main beach. We started at Crescent Bay Point Park.

Crescent Bay Point Park, Laguna Beach

It's a popular wedding spot, and one was assembling when we arrived, so we didn't have the full run of the place. Although it was tempting to huck Grandma over the cliff...

...there were enough tide pool enthusiasts below that we didn't want to risk hitting anyone. But it's a short walk to Crescent Bay itself.

We made it past the lifeguard without arousing too much suspicion, found a fairly secluded spot, said our goodbyes, and consigned her to the bosom of the ocean.

Farewell

Beautiful! I would have never thought to freeze the ashes with the flowers.
