essentialsaltesI enjoyed the shit out of Saints Row 3. Saints Row IV was almost as enjoyable, but just as gratuitously violent, sexist, and crude. But now it added on a veneer of science fiction tropes, from the Matrix to They Live. Aliens have taken over, and most of the action takes place in a Matrix-like simulation. Y'know how at the end of the Matrix, Neo steps out of the phone booth and swoops into the air like Superman? And we all did Keanu 'Whoa's? This is the game that let's you jump in his shoes. Probably the best thing about the game is that, no matter how many ridiculous superpowers you learn and make use of, you can still have fun. And seriously, some of the best fun is had by running at superspeed through town, leaping up buildings and running up their sides, and gliding back down. It feels great.
And there's all sorts of stuff to blow up and do. And all sorts of people to blow up and do. And lots of nice touches and hilarious wrinkles here and there, like the infamous dubstep gun.
But I'm glad I've finished with Stillwater. Because it'll soon be time to take over my beloved Los Santos.
