A lot of those come down to having the right tools. I applaud people who attempt to recreate things that inspire them, but sometimes it requires a trip to Michael's and more money than the project is worth to get it right.
Admittedly, reading CakeWrecks taught me that even professionals with the right tools aren't always able to execute on a vision...
