HARTLAND — A Hartland man was treated at a Pittsfield hospital after he nailed himself to a cross. The 23-year-old man apparently was trying to commit suicide Thursday evening in his living room, the Bangor Daily News reported.

... the man took two pieces of wood, nailed them together in the form of a cross and placed them on the floor. He attached a suicide sign to the wood and then proceeded to nail one of his hands to the makeshift cross using a 14-penny nail and a hammer.

Clearly this guy was not the sharpest thorn on the crown:

"When he realized that he was unable to nail his other hand to the board, he called 911," Boucher said.

It was unclear whether the man was seeking assistance for his injury or help in nailing down his other hand.

PS Of course, this doesn't even hold a candle to the annual crucifixions in the Philippines.

Gah I can't even CLICK on the Filipino link to the crucifixions. I've known about them for a long time and they've always freaked the crap outta me. One of my dad's cousins has done it a couple of times. *shudders*

I have yet to see Gibson's S&M movie (nor will I), but doesn't it seem freaky that a huge portion of the world worships a mutilated god? (to quote GVE's story title?)

What does it mean for the followers when the Creator demands that his own son bleeds from every pore for us?

Wouldn't it me more loving and caring if God just let everyone (even those who don't believe) into heaven?
