As for the alleged argument in the first picture, it may also have to do with differences in city/rural populations.

In addition to that, the map is actually pointing out a correlation between colleges and the vote, not between level of education and the vote. Know what support for gay rights is *really* correlated with? Age. Of course college towns are going to be more in favor of gay marriage.

What you'd really need to make this case is a map indicating the percentage of the voters in each district that have a college education, rather than a map showing the locations of colleges.
