The grandparents kindly sent us some tasty Omaha Steaks for Christmas. It came in a styrofoam cube, packed with dry ice. Dr. Pookie says, "What should we do with the dry ice?"

I immediately say, "Let's put it in drinks!"

The dry ice is in a plastic bag, which has all sorts of verbiage on it. In huge letters, it says do not handle with bare hands. But slightly beneath that is a long list of other things you shouldn't do. And #1 on that list is "Do not put in drinks."

Total buzz kill. They probably put poison in it to keep winos from having smoking drinks.

It's PROBABLY safe(in that regard), but they don't want the liability if someone puts it in their drink then, say, drinks it.

Yeah, I'm sure it's just some CYA for them.

Just kidding about the poison thing. Everyone knows winos can't afford Omaha Steaks.

They used to put lots of it in the fountain at Bar Sinister. They probably stopped doing that because people were fishing out the dry ice and putting it in their drinks.

There's a plastic stirrer out there that's designed to hold chunks of dry ice and not let the solid mix with the drink; obviously the gas will sublimate through the alcohol to the top.

I can't find the link to it, but I know it's there cuz that's what teh con chair is doing for the special $5 cocktail at steampunk convention (http://hrmsteam.com/).
