I've already posted my opinion of the mother's PoV and choices. At the same time, this really does seem to be another frustrating example of people really not getting the "love thy neighbor" thing.

Person A feels insulted by Person B and says something about it; Person B becomes defensive and lashes out at Person A; Person A gets doubly peeved -- c'mon, already! Just breathe. We're all human. Let it go.
