Hamilton County [near Chattanooga Choo Choo TN] Board of Education member Rhonda Thurman, who represents Soddy-Daisy [High School], said the prayers were part of the school’s tradition, and that anyone who didn’t want to hear could “put their fingers in their ears.

“Everybody is offended by something,” she said. “I’m offended by a lot of those little girls running around with their thong panties showing, but I can’t make that go away.”

The sad fact is, in your pull quote -- Ms. Thurman (in conjunction with the rest of her BoE, I presume) darned well *could* make girls having their thongs showing go away. Schools are allowed to set and enforce dress-code standards. Because *that* isn't something protected by the First Amendment. *Unlike* the ability to not have one's school trying to establish a religion for you. Argh.
