We had one break a wing and start hopping around in our yard, which made letting the dogs out fun as you can imagine. Also drove our cat craaaaaazy because the mighty 10-pound huntress really wanted that bird. Also also, its fellow crows hung around on the phone and electrical wires and cawed loudly starting at daybreak, which was nice on Saturday AND Sunday morning. I went out to put it out of its misery but it escaped into the bushes lining our back wall before I could find something suitably clublike. (A golf club, in fact. Terribly appropriate while being completely inappropriate at the same time.) I would have thought that I could have flushed it from under the bushes, but I was never able to get the damn thing out or even discern its location. (They're dense bushes.)
I assumed it just died in there, but I saw it a couple days later, only this time it managed to fly pretty creditably to about halfway up the bushes in an area I couldn't get to. I never saw it again. So... maybe it healed up? If so, I'm torn as to whether to be glad because I didn't want to have to kill it, as I didn't think I'd be able to do it cleanly on the first shot, but also perhaps sad, as I friggin' hate those things and really wouldn't mind one less.
yeah, there's one in our area with a droopy wing that I suspect may have been broken. Mostly he struts around on the ground, but I've seen him fly enough to get from the ground to a telephone pole, and he's still alive years later. They're tough.
