One Winter in Eden by Michael Bishop
Apr. 28th, 2010 09:48 amFinished up this collection of short stories by Michael Bishop, published by Arkham House. Although Bishop gets filed under science fiction, a lot of his work, especially his short fiction, dances along the edges of sf, fantasy, fable and literachoor. Solid, thought-provoking stuff, and some curious satire of modern America, often tinged by Bishop's experience of the South and being an Air Force brat. The title story, "The Yukio Mishima Cultural Association of Kudzu Valley, Georgia," "The Monkey Bride," and the Nebula-award winning novelette "The Quickening" are the stand outs.
