Essentially all of the 'references in pop culture' to "Daisy Bell" are references to HAL's performance of it in 2001.

What I didn't realize is that in 1962, "Daisy Bell" was the first song to be sung by a computer, an IBM 704 (or 7090 or 7094, stories differ). Clarke happened to be at Bell Labs on the day of the performance. Not that IBM had anything to do with the name HAL. And now, for your listening pleasure...

Wow, this song is a lot creepier for 1890s-1910s Tin Pan Alley fans when you realize this is the *only* reference point most people have for it...
