Mimas!

We got a new iMac today. The old one was getting a little wiggy; for seemingly no reason, CPU usage would hit 100% and it would get forced into sleep. And it was 4 years old, so... maybe time for a new one.

Hit Apple store, transaction rapidly concluded, and then things began to go wrong...

On the previous iMac buy, the migration was unbelievably flawless. Connect the new one to the old one, and the new one sucked the brain of the old one. This time, not so much.

Oh hai, new Firewire thingy! You are shaped differently. OK, we'll migrate using Ethernet.

About 2 hours to completion. About 3 hours to completion. About 4 hours to completion. Urk. Your iMac is fucked. Please restart.

About 2 hours to completion. About 3 hours to completion. About... Urk. Discontinue brain-suck? Y
Less than a minute to complete not-sucking the brain.

Restart.
Evil Memory Beep.
Restart.
Freaktastic Error Message
Restart.
Halfway through the annoying "Welcome to the Supernatural World of iMac" video it goes Urk and demands to be restarted.
Restart.
Do not even get to the Apple logo.

Back to the Apple Store, where Aaron, a prince among men, exchanges the iMac for a new one with only a brief glance at the printout of the freaktastic error message I happened to bring along with me.

Back home, and brain suck complete [accompanied by hard liquor and pizza] I now type this on the new iMac.

A little amazing the kinds of files you find when doing this sort of thing...

Equipment Requirements for Bruin OnLine

Macintosh:

* A Macintosh computer with a minimum processor of 68020.
* A minimum of 8MB of available RAM (However, we strongly recommend 16MB
of RAM.)
* A high density floppy drive (1.4 MB) or a CD-ROM drive
* A hard disk drive (with approximately 13MB of free disk space)
* A color monitor recommended (256 colors or more)
* A modem - 14.4K (V.32bis) minimum speed is recommended. Modems capable
of 28.8K must support true v.34 (not just v.fast or v.turbo). If the
modem is external, a cable capable of hardware handshaking is
necessary.

* MacOS 7.1 or higher (7.5.3 is strongly recommended)
