Admiral Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, addressing the Senate Armed Services Committee: "Speaking for myself and myself only, it is my personal belief that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly would be the right thing to do."

Mullen, 63, told senators that he had knowingly served with gays since 1968, when he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, and that he thought it was wrong that they were forced to hide their sexual orientation.

"No matter how I look at the issue, I cannot escape being troubled by the fact that we have in place a policy which forces young men and women to lie about who they are in order to defend their fellow citizens," he testified.

(Three years ago, McCain said he would support ending the ban once the military's top brass agreed to do so. But on Tuesday, he said he was "disappointed" with the testimony from Mullen and Gates. Well, poop on you!)

Two years ago McCain knew the brass and so he could look like he was for equality without being for it. Now he seems to be the loan hold out in the McCain clan after wife Cindy posed for a No H8 ad, and daughter Megan is out proclaiming that Gays and Lesbians should be equal to everyone else. Poor John, the women in his life live a completely different century than him.

Before Colin Powell was for it, he was against it.

It's funnier when Jon Stewart covers this.
