Tracked the links back to the original - Boing Boing found it via Mother Jones (which baffles me because if that "liberal reporter" works for anyone it would be MoJo) but saw they were just as bemused by the orignal holier-than-any-other-patriotic-painting-EVAR as you are by the Hail Cthulu version.
All this is to say here is the Mother Jones article with a link to the parody. It's the original uncool picture of Jesus handing over the Consitution but with FAR better footnotes.
For me it's a toss up between the sarcasm of that parody and your Cthulu one. Either way I keep laughing. }:>
