Not a great film, but Vincent Price wins five teh internets for his role as a hammy actor (is it unkind to suggest this was not a stretch?). Plenty more fun from Mitchum, Burr, a sleazy Jim Backus, and the shapely Jane Russell in corsets and sequins.
The opening has some strange parallels to the Big Lebowski, another 'noir' film with elements of humor. Mitchum buys a glass of milk and then goes home and gets worked over by thugs looking for money owed to the wrong kind of people. The Dude buys his half-and-half at Ralphs and then goes home and gets worked over by thugs looking for the money owed to the wrong kind of people.
