Finished Graham Joyce's Stormwatcher. I want to like it more than I liked it. A motley assortment of English people share a French villa for a few weeks over the summer, and drama and spooky shenanigans ensue. It has a Machen-esque flavor and would probably be best read on long lazy summer days spent at a French villa. Rainy days in the hood didn't quite do it justice. The book actually read as though one short story invited another short story to stay for a few weeks at its French villa, with a character from a third short story also invited along out of pity. Interesting tension and drama, but not entirely satisfying. Verdict: read (or re-read) the Tooth Fairy.

Speaking of drama, let's have a theism vs. atheism craziness battle.

In the atheist corner, we have susie, who has a big chip on her shoulder about the Crusaders. Now, they're not my favorite people either, but when I express some doubt about the 'fact' that Crusaders habitually ate Muslim babies, things go downhill pretty rapidly. The zenith is reached in this exchange:

Captain Brad: LOL @ The History Channel being any more valid than Wikipedia.
susie: Oh shut up. This is pure mysogyny and you know it. Wiki is a joke and if I were male posting this you'd agree.

If only you were cool enough to belong to [livejournal.com profile] atheist_snark, you could see such things as this or this in context.

In the theist corner, we have this post, which I still don't entirely understand, but since it mixes evangelism with furry fandom, it deserves everyone's close attention. The zenith is reach with "Only a man and woman who are married should yiff each other." The personal journal also causes one to boggle, with statements like "I'm trying to join the furry ham operators group. I don't have a set, but I want one!"

Crazy-off Verdict: The theist cops to being manic-depressive, so that should probably be a win by default. Nonetheless, the judges award the crown to the atheist. Because she was wrong on the internet. And she was mean to me.

This is like blood libel in some crazed bizarro world universe. AND I LOVE IT. Dare I ask why the Crusaders would exactly want to eat babies? Adults are far meatier, and a varied diet can breed a more well-rounded taste than delicate yet cloying HUMAN VEAL!!!!

And you just walked away instead of unleashing nine kinds of shit on susie for being an ignorant twit? I demand that you surrender your XKCD icon at once to someone more aggressive and obnoxious.

(Oh, and in my opinion you're wrong about the zenith of that thread. I say the zenith is when susie declares that while Gilles de Rais may not have been a Crusader, he was French and the French went on Crusades, so what's the difference?)

*sigh* Maybe I'll have to turn in the icon. In my defense, she posts 2 or 3 times for every post of mine. I have enough math-sense to avoid the exponential explosion that would ensue. Of course, the xkcd icon demonstrates what happens to people who don't avoid the explosion.

[livejournal.com profile] chartreusekitty suggested I should wander over and say hello. Hello!
