Now the news:
Yesterday, I travelled to San Francisco on business. It's cool that BART goes to SFO now, except for the part where the train was held-up due to 'police activity' at one of the stations. When service started again, they sorta skipped that station, too.
Moscone Center was maxxed out for the convention. North, South and West halls were all taken over by the semiconductor crowd. With the extra space, they had some room for fun. They had a Segway course, where (after signing an injury waiver) you could ride a Segway through a maze of big foam barriers.
There was also a biergarten inside the convention center, with real live German beer and quasi-oompah band.
I met up with M from Cal for lunch. She's started teaching intensive SAT prep at Kaplan and has a new appreciation for the difficulties of teaching teenage girls. Individually, they aren't so bad, but when they form a pack, the results ain't pretty. I commiserated.
After lunch, I swooped through more of the convention and then headed back for the airport.
On the BART train back, the young Latino guy in the back corner made o-so-seductive kissy noises for someone's benefit. I very much fear it was mine. He got off (so to speak) a few stations later and made his kissy noises on the platform. No one accompanied him and the doors shut on his last forlorn kissies.
Flew back, sitting next to a maybe-ten-year-old-girl who listened to her 'phones and read a book. She was also about the size of a katydid. Perfect airplane seatmate.
