aaronjv's birthday party. It was at Clover Park (where Douglas Aircraft used to be) bordering the Santa Monica Airport, which was pretty cool. Not only is the park enormous, but planes took off and landed constantly, adding some visual entertainment. They had the BBQ fired up when I got there and tasty tri-tips were a-sizzlin'. A little nibble here, a little chit-chat there, a little zombie attack over yonder... it was a great day at the park. Soon enough, Aaron called together some softball and we managed to scrape together enough people to play. I kept my nerd-cred intact by failing to catch a ball, but I can still hit it reasonably well. After playing ball, we had pirate cake, complete with jolly roger decoration in sprinkles. Here's to Aaron's continued existence!
Even for those who don't continue their existence, the story is not yet over. I finished reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, by Mary Roach. I might have preferred a book written by an expert, rather than a journalist, but she goes and pokes her nose into a lot of different aspects of what dead people get up to. From quietly rotting to ballistics testing to the gross anatomy lab in med school. Good clean fun.
