First Frist took an embryonic step away from Bush, and now Santorum moves an inch closer to sanity: "I'm not comfortable with intelligent design being taught in the science classroom."

Of course, when Bush said that "both sides" in the creation/evolution debate should be taught in schools, apparently he didn't mean that intelligent design should be taught in schools. Bush's science adviser clarified that what Bush meant was that the concept should be taught as part of the "social context" in science classes, whatever that means.

The only thing schools should do better when teaching evolution is teaching what the hell scientists mean by "theory." That's the term every damned Christian latches onto to criticize evolution. Teachers might mention there are serious social debates about the origins of the universe, but that this is the only theory supported by scientific evidence.

I think 'social context' means "you should understand that some people believe in evolution, so watch out for them 'cause they're trouble."

Most Americans believe that God created human beings or guided the process of evolution, according to a CBS poll last November. Two-thirds said they wanted creationism taught alongside evolution in schools.
