Why did the MP punch the Muslim Gitmo detainee?

'Because I'm Christian.'

Because that's what Christians do is punch. After they take communion, they go out and punch non-believers. It's in Paul's Letter to the Pugilists, Chapter 3, verse 9.

Haven't you learned by now that we Christians always put the idiots in charge of public relations? That way, we won't get any new recruits and we'll continue to be able to hold our snake-handling ceremonies in peace! Heck, the Muslims have been doing it for years, too! For that matter, I think the atheists are even catching on!

My comment was supposed to have been a response to Mike's original post. Well, you know how stupid we Christians are! Yuk-yuk!

I don't know if it's my anti-Christian bias, or the supposed "liberal media bias", but I hear more stories like this than I hear about Christians protesting the hijacking of their religion by psychopaths with a PR department. (I never did understand why some Christian groups feel the need to proselytize; why does God need their help?)

Occasionally, browsing the usenet groups, I come across what seems like a very cogent, kind, optimistic post from a Christian who is horrified by the majority's comments like "these are the end times" and "we will all worship Jesus Christ as our LORD AND SAVIOR." But those are rare, and far overwhelmed by people who think they'll go to heaven if they kill (or have the right to abuse) those who don't believe like they do.

And I'd like to see more of that: Christians apologizing for their abhorrent adherents, Muslims slapping around their more militant magistrates, etc.

At the very least, people should point out how easy it is to use religion for oppression (since we're all sort of oppressed by this "God" thing in the first place).

"I didn't want to kill my kids at all. I felt I like I had no choice, because God told me to do that, and I was taught you obey God."
--Court testimony from Deanna Laney, who beat her children to death with a rock (although maybe killing your kids is a Texas fad, not just a Christian one)
