Virtually all role-playing game stuff is work-for-hire, so that the company owns it all. Chaosium has actually been nice enough in the past to mail me a couple copies of product that has reused some of my work. Currently, Chaosium is not so much 'barely treading financial water' as it is 'lying in a financial dead man's float while unpaid artists and authors beat it with sticks, while IRS-sharks gnaw at its belly'. So I consider myself lucky that I got paid back in the day.
