I know there were a number of random things I wanted to spout. Let's see how many I can remember.

#1 For the past few days, there have been a lot of crows around our place. You may remember the injured one that was hopping about the backyard a few weeks back. Well, Saturday morning, there was a crow pining for the fjords in the front lawn, its stiff stick-like legs jutting out. I start to wonder about the crows, and why a group of them is called a murder.

#2 Saturday morning, we also went out to get breakfast at the Griddle Cafe. They serve unbelievably excellent pancakes, all right, but they're as big as the plate. There's not way you could eat it all. There's no way I could eat half of it all. I found the gargantuan serving to be a turn-off.

#3 Bought a new Weber grill for the 3rd of July BBQ. The wee Weber is big enough for the two of us, but a BBQ calls for more surface area.

#4 Rebecca bought some bullshit. Well, it's probably a mixture of cowshit and bullshit. We're hopeful that it will help the lawn. So she was out spreading bullshit all over the place this weekend.

#5 Rebecca beat me at Scrabble twice this weekend, but at least I got to make "ozone" on a triple word score.

#6 Got the Miskatonic University stuff pulled together. Just a few more things to work out and then it will all be over this weekend.

#7 I had a deep thought today: No one will ever feel pity for the poster child of the eugenics movement. Think about it.

You call yourself an American?

"No one will ever feel pity for the poster child of the eugenics movement. Think about it." I did think about it but I'm done now. Explain!

We're not talking about something that even remotely comes into your mind when you think 'big pancake'. Like when you think 'big lizard' you're probably not thinking mastodon. These were so goddamn huge! Each one was at least a foot across, so by any estimate there were several square feet of pancake per plate. At the edges, the pile was only an inch or so thick, but in the center it was more like 2 inches. I ate a 6 inch circle out of the center, while Mike attempted to mine his way in from the edge, but we both failed to eat more than a third of what we were served, and I felt a little queasy afterward. But unlike Mike, I was merely inspired--they were really good pancakes, and I've never been given more pancakes than I could eat before. Like so many things, though, I think this might be something you should enlist friends to attempt, rather than going it alone.

I may be a dissident, but I'm American.

We've got a place up in Big Bear that serves plate-sized pancakes. Fortunately, you can order just one, if you want.
