essentialsaltesThis month's Smithsonian includes a visit to Haleakala National Park. One of the interesting details is that there are three cabins you can rent there. They are only reached by hikes of 4-10 miles or so. Not much in the way of amenities, and you'd have to pack everything in, but pretty neat.
