There was - or still is, for all I know - a club in Chicago that had a central atrium about 4 stories high, with balconies all around the sides. On the ceiling was a painting of an angry Judeo-Christian god pulling back the "domed ceiling" to peer down with red glowing eyes (red lightbulbs!) at the dance floor below. Pretty damned cool, literally...
