In Canadia, prisoners formerly had access to a variety of chaplains of different faiths. No more. "The federal government is cancelling the contracts of non-Christian chaplains at federal prisons, CBC News has learned."

"The minister strongly supports the freedom of religion for all Canadians, including prisoners,” the email states. “However, the government … is not in the business of picking and choosing which religions will be given preferential status through government funding. The minister has concluded … [Christian] chaplains employed by Corrections Canada must provide services to inmates of all faiths."

Cribbing from Babbage, I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of flappy-headed confusion of ideas that could provoke such a statement. Compare:

The government is not in the business of picking and choosing which races will be given preferential status through government funding, therefore we're firing all nonwhite government employees. (These government-funded white people will be given the training needed to adequately provide services to Canadians of all races.)

I wish this were a joke, but this is really what politics in America is like nowadays. House member Paul Broun is a member of the Committee on Science and Technology. And he thinks "All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell."
