I woke up early, took my shower and then when I peeked out the window, there was a black wall facing me. When I went to investigate, I discovered we were in a lock. A really really big lock. I bumped into Carol who had a pretty problem in topology -- the strap on her bag had somehow gotten a twist in it. I managed to make it better, but not perfect. It was still a strange Moebius bag.

The collection spans Holmes' career from his first case (or at least the first incident that decided him on his life of investigation) to what was then his last, with the final meeting with Moriarty at Reichenbach Falls. Less wildly inventive than when Doyle really let himself go, these have much more of a pulp feel with many flashes of charm amid the cliches (which maybe weren't yet cliche) such as the moldy old 'vital clause of an international treaty'. Probably the most interesting story (if not the best) is The Yellow Face, though I can't say why without spoiling it.
