Islam is the new Satanism
May. 14th, 2010 05:19 pmErgun Caner, the president of Liberty University's theological seminary, has risen to the top in evangelical circles, primarily for his engaging "tale of having been raised in Turkey as the son of a religious leader and trained in a madrassa to wage jihad against Americans," followed by his conversion to evangelical Christianity. Unfortunately, it looks like the Turkish madrassa was more like elementary school in Ohio.
It's a long article, so let me just excerpt another little bit, to induce a little Friday rage: "Dr. Caner, do you believe in women behind the pulpit? My answer is well, yeah, of course, how are they going to vacuum back there unless they get behind it...."
Liberty University doesn't seem to want to reprimand Caner for his fibs. "the Liberty board has held an inquiry and directors are satisfied that Caner has done nothing theologically inappropriate."
Anyway, to explain the title of this post, this episode reminds me a lot of Mike Warnke and the other frauds of the Satanic Panic days of the 80's and 90's, who allegedly transformed themselves from baby-raping generational Satanists to darlings of the Christian lecture circuit.
