We went with the inhabitants of [livejournal.com profile] castle_kevorah to the Magic Castle on Saturday. For those who heard Kev's story at our party, he wore a disguise and had no problems getting in. I enjoyed the close-up show a lot, since for me it was real close up. I was in the front row and got to do a few useless things in the act, including using the powers of numismatics. The magician was good enough that I couldn't tell what he was doing, but not quite good enough for me not to notice he was doing something. Still pretty good stuff. After that we lounged about in Irma's room for drinks before dinner. I've had dinner there a few times and generally the food ranges from good to very good, but my Beef Wellington turned out freaking amazing!
The big show was fine. The last magician produced so many doves that I was reminded of an old Mad magazine cartoon where a magician's act suddenly goes haywire, with rabbits and birds pouring out of the magician's sleeves, leaving only a little puddle of empty clothes.
The last act we saw was a guy making balloon animals. Not magic in the usual sense, but still amazing. As always, a really neat evening, especially with good company.
