Ok, one last observation from my plane-flight back from the UK. It left at 11AM and (since we were chasing the sun) arrived just before 2PM. So, by local time it was basically noon during the entire trip. But.
The flight naturally follows a great circle route going across the midsection of Greenland.
Although most of my transatlantic trips are in the summertime, this one was just a few weeks from the winter solstice.
Thus, as we approached the Arctic Circle, the sun dipped lower until it was getting orangy and sunset-like. And then it bobbed back up again into the sky as we headed back south. Very odd.

In other news, this guy carves crayons.
