Cultured Turkey
Nov. 25th, 2006 10:26 amTurkey Day was good fun with Dad and Lois coming over. Rebecca cooked up a traditional meal, despite the lack of corn meal in the stores, due to a little bug infestation problem. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry relish, box-cornbread, salad, homebaed pumpkin pie and several bottles of wine. I was swollen like a tick. Dad got his birthday present and he actually brought along his disused guitar for me. Sad to say, my Guitar Hero moves don't really sound like anything musical.
Yesterday, Becca took me to the Magritte exhibit at LACMA. It was crowded as hell, but lots of good clean surrealist fun. To eke out the Magrittes (of which they had quite a lot, really) they had added various other related works, mainly homages and rip-offs by other artists. One of the neat things they had was a little accordion-folded exhibit booklet that Magritte had designed for a showing in New York. It sort of spelled out his philosophy of things, images and words. And of course, they had a number of his best paintings there. And there were also a couple of pieces from his 'vache' period - I was unfamiliar with them and I guess I wish I were still unfamiliar with them.
