The Joy of Cooking
I've beed idly drooling over the latest rare book auction catalog from Heritage. I was dumbfounded by the image on the cover of the First Edition of the Joy of Cooking (1931).
Go on, guess. Guess what's on the cover.

What!?! A haloed maiden with a pole-arm attacks a giant iguana.
Many thanks to the Book Patrol for providing some context: "St. Martha of Bethany, the patron saint of cooking, taking up a mop to fend off the dragon Tarasque."
