Accomplishments of the day

Assisted Dr. Pookie in performing surgery on one of the chairs. It had not occurred to us, dude, that there should be another dowel-y thingy connecting the back legs. Obviously there had been, but it had snapped off at some point, and the remaining one had snapped off at one side and been intriguingly repaired at some point. This repair did not last, necessitating some further reconstruction work. Pliers, saw, hacksaw, drill, and wood glue have been applied, and the patient is recuperating while the glue dries for one future ticklish operation. So far so good.

Currently watching over a pot of our chili recipe, with today's bonus ingredient: linguiƧa. Smells great and the paprika coloration is quite noticeable.

I had one of my chairs recently break while Cort was sitting in it, breaking some of the dowels and damaging the seat underneath - it did have dowels in it, but the culprit seemed to be that the dowels were made of a very weak wood. We're replacing them with oak dowels now. And by 'we', I mean my mother, who is far better at such things than I am. Never occurred to me that dowel material would matter, so I pass on my experience for your benefit.
