Quick update

Vonage is cool (so far).

My cousin's baby looks like Gollum.

The plumbers are tearing our house apart.

The cat is traumatized in the garage.

Just to be contrary...

But Vonage will cut down on our web-surfing speed--how is that cool?

The baby actually looks demonic. Very noticably so. I haven't decided WHICH demon it resembles, yet. Perhaps that will become more obvious as it grows older.

The plumbers did much less damage to the house than I expected...but the rats didn't finish AND the water smells and tastes really funky. No one mentioned this part of the repiping experience to me. What the heck is it? Mike says with great authority that it's solder. But if so, how long will it last, and is it toxic??? I guess we can only hope the answer is 'not long, and no'. They will apparently finish today, but the inspection and patching won't happen until Friday. By which time the cat may be hiding under the bed full time for the next week.

The cat in the garage is old news. Today it is traumatized in the closet. Becca is traumatized at work. And no one (I hope) is traumatized in the garage.

Yeah? Well, my adorable baby brother may not be Gollum incarnate, but he was fortunate enough to be blessed with a perfectly cube-shaped head (imagine a cube with a slightly rounded corners and a little semi-circle attached for a chin, and you'll have a fairly accurate idea). He would serve quite well as an end table I think, if only I could get him to hold still long enough.

Shawn complained when I pointed out that our ultrasound pictures looked like our baby was Gollum. Just calling it like I saw it.

baby resemblances

No, see, everything else (e.g., Gollum) is designed to look like babies. We humans are pre-programmed to gravitate towards baby-looking-like entities; it's a quick, automatic way to pull our heartstrings (or, in some cases, revolt and revile us). It has to do with the larger-proportioned head, big open eyes, small nose, etc.

It's all just chemicals in your brain, don't worry about it.
