drama llama, Mississippi style

Timeline of drama:

The school cancels prom because of the threatened attendance of a girl in a tux.
Mississippi Safe Schools sends out the call for donations for a Second Chance prom.
The Mississippi ACLU handles the donations.
The American Humanist Asociation sends a check for $20,000.
The MS ACLU turns down their filthy humanist money, because the "majority of Mississippians tremble in terror at the word 'atheist'."
MS Safe Schools is all, "WTF, ACLU? Twenty large buys a lot of Wild Turkey and condoms."
The humanists are butthurt
The ACLU throws nebulous blame at the humanists.
The humanists are butthurter.

(Meanwhile, it seems the students have organized their own inclusive prom.)

ARRRGGGGH

GDI, ACLU. I will have to think twice about renewing my membership. I love most of what they do, but, as an atheist that's a big ol' slap in the face.

And isn't that completely antithetical to what they are trying to do? The ACLU's prime directive is to kill discrimination, not promote it or lend tacit support to it!

OTOH, I should keep this link handy for the next time someone is bleating about how the ACLU is a bunch of anti-christian atheists.

The ACLU has already apologized. It's the featured item on their web site, no less.

And the ACLU's prime directive isn't to stop discrimination, it's to protect our civil liberties, which has significant overlap but is not really the same thing...

Thanks for the link.

Yeah, I misspoke. Sorry.
